Happy Wednesday, Mountain Lions!

Only six weeks left of school before summer but there's still TONS going on at Monte Vista and within YOUR PTO!  There's still time to email and find out how you can lend a hand and be part of the fun this semester.  What's more, we are already looking ahead to next fall and now is your chance to get on board (or THE BOARD?) early to help make Monte Vista the best place to be in Kyrene!  We are looking for (co)chairpeople for several committees and now is a great time to sign up and get familiar with chair duties BEFORE the fall rush.

ALSO, we are STILL in need of a PTO Board Co-President next year!  "President" might sound intimidating, but anyone who's been in the position can tell you that PTO Boards are a cooperative venture with all members sharing the load of leading/coordinating and it's an immeasurable amount of FUN!  Who are our past presidents?  They are/have been stay-at-home parents, full-time working parents, part-time working parents, enthusiastic go-getters, soft-spoken work-horses, seasoned previous board members and folks who just jumped right in.  The most important requirement:  a willingness to do what it takes to support and put smiles on the faces of our families, teachers and administrators.  WE NEED YOU!  Won't you make the commitment to contribute to your school community and YOUR PTO in this way?  You'd be in fantastic company!  Email for more information.

Student Store, 4/13:

The Student Store is happening this THURSDAY from 7:15 to 7:40am!  Items range from 50¢ to $2.00 and include pens, pencils and other useful and fun school supplies.  Proceeds benefit the 5th Grade End of Year Celebration.  Our younger students LOVE knowing that their purchases help fund this event for the 5th graders so remind them to bring their allowances and support their upperclassmen and their school this Friday!

Spirit Shirt Design Contest WINNER!:

Congratulations to EJ Martinez from Mrs. Schmalstieg's class for his winning design for next year's Spirit Shirt!  And thanks to everyone who submitted their designs - we have a lot of talented artists out there and it was a tough decision!

Teacher Appreciation Week, 5/1 - 5/5:

Teacher Appreciation Week is happening the first week in May and it's a time to express just how much we care for, support and adore our KMV teachers.  If you're in need of ideas for what to get your favorite teachers, don't forget we have a 'Favorite Things' sheet for almost every teacher at school stored in a binder in the front office!  They list things like favorite music, favorite books, favorite candy and more.  In addition, the Hospitality Committee will be planning some special treats for our teachers on campus and could use your help.  Email if you can help out!

It's been shown that gratitude can lead to a happier life, so in the interest of promoting "the happy"at MonteVista, this new section has been created to send out thanks and call out some of the awesome folks that make our school community a very special place to be.  There's simply no way to recognize everyone and express how much your time and talents mean to our school, but we're going to try our best!  If you have someone you think deserves a special shout out of thanks for something they did within our school community, please send an email to and let us know!

  • A HUGE thank you to the Overall Chair of the Spring Carnival Committee, Abigail Wool-Biringer and her amazing team of sub-committee chairs and volunteers!  Everyone on this team worked REALLY hard to create a fun family event on Saturday and it paid off!  Thank you to everyone who donated items for the auction/raffle and to those folks who bid on items and bought raffle tickets!  We made about $2500 and that money benefits our school community in numerous positive ways!
  • Thank you to Heidi Geibel, our Spirit Gear Chair, and Board Co-Secretary, for spear-heading the Spirit Shirt Design Contest! There were a lot of entries to sift through and we're so excited to see EJ's design on our new spirit shirts next year!
  • Much appreciation goes out to Young Joo Cha, Shelli Davenport, Deanna Shah, Brandy Cino, DJ Fenstermaker and the rest of the yearbook committee for their hard work and dedication to documenting our year at Monte Vista!  They've worked year-round to take photos from every event, documented memories, sifted through submissions and edited and re-edited our yearbook to put together an amazing keepsake of the 2016-2017 term!
  • Many thanks to the Project Brainpower team, Rebecca Paterson and Candy Chatawanich, for taking on the huge task of providing snacks to our students as they participate in standardized testing this month.  The snacks they provide help students stay focused and energized throughout their testing periods!
