20.  How often will there be air quality testing in all of Waggoner?

Kyrene will schedule air quality testing to occur monthly through August of 2009 in the rooms that were impacted by the water damage.  Additional areas will receive the same testing as is normal for all of our 25 schools.

21. What causes mold in a school?

An ample supply of moisture and heat within the right medium can promote mold growth.

22. When is mold a problem in a school?

Mold can become problem when it is dry and disturbed.  This causes it to become airborne and that is when it can become a health problem.

When will the students be moved out of temporary classrooms?

Once we have received clearance from the industrial hygienist and the rooms have been put back to original condition, students will be moved back.  We expect that this will occur sometime by the end of the first week of April.  Additionally, the City of Tempe Building Safety department will provide clearance for us to occupy the rooms.

23. Who will clear the classroom for occupancy?

The industrial hygienist will ensure the classrooms meet prevailing health and safety standards.  The City of Tempe Building Safety department will ensure we meet the fire and emergency exit plans that are required for occupancy.

24. Why is there a jack in the KMS Media Center if there wasn’t an immediate safety concern?

It is our standard operating procedure to error on the side of safety.  We would rather put shoring in to provide the upmost safety and remove the question of concern.

25. How often are our schools inspected by the Schools Facilities Board?

The Schools Facility Board (SFB) inspects schools every 5 years. Kyrene follows the recommended inspection schedule set by the SFB in all areas (HVAC, Roofing, Electrical, Plumbing, Surfaces, Special Systems, and Special Equipment).  The recommendation is that inspections be done on a quarterly, semi-annual and annual basis.  These reports for Kyrene are all on file with the SFB.

26. What type of training do the school employees that do the visual internal/external quarterly inspections receive?

Employees who conduct these inspections are skilled in construction trades and conduct inspections within their areas of expertise.

27. Are the existing walls on the MPR going to be kept in the new construction of the MPR?  If so, why?

At this point, this is undecided.  The architectural designs have not yet been started because we are still in the demolition stage of the project.

28. What is the timeline for evaluating whether or not the emergency phone system will be repaired or replaced?

We are in process of evaluating whether the current phone dialer can be improved or needs to be replaced. As soon as that determination is made then the appropriate action will be taken.
