Invitation to Parent Communication Focus Group
CALLING ALL PARENTS OF CHILDREN AGES 2-12
We would be honored if you would participate in a focus group to gather data on preferred communication tools and provide input on how you would like your schools to communicate. We also invite you to bring along one guest, another parent with children ages 2-12.
We will run two groups if we get enough RSVP’s for each.

Dates for focus groups are:
Wednesday, November 4 - 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.
Thursday, November 5 - 9:30 to 11:00 a.m.
Babysitting and snacks will be provided!!

Kyrene Aprende Students Places 1st in Poetry Contest
Rachel Bawdun, a student from Kyrene Aprende Middle School was chosen as the 1st place poetry winner in this year’s Paint, Poetry and Movement to Music Contest in conjunction with The Phoenix Symphony’s Symphony for the Schools concerts on May 13th and 14th. » read more
Kyrene Facilities Receives AASBO Best Practices Award
On Tuesday, April 14th the Arizona Association of School Business Officers presented the Kyrene School District Facilities Department with a 2009 Best Practices Award. The award was presented to Terry Tatterfield, Assistant Superintendent who oversees operations, facilities, transportation, food services and all other support services. Terry credited the entire Kyrene staff for implementing the strategies that have resulted in successful energy efficiency.
During the last five years, the Kyrene’s energy conservation and utility reduction has resulted in substantially less energy use and cost. » read more
Mariposa Receives Arizona’s 2009-2010 A+ Schools of Excellence

Kyrene de la Mariposa previously was awarded A+ status in 2004. A second naming is very rare. A celebration and presentation All School Assembly will be held on Monday, May 11 at 9:00 a.m. in the multi-purpose room at Kyrene de la Mariposa. Bobbie O’Boyle, Executive Director of the Arizona Educational Foundation will present the award and banner to the school and U.S. Representative Harry Mitchell will be on hand to add his congratulations.

Congratulations Arizona Teacher of the Year
Sarah Baird is the state’s honoree for 2009. Sarah, a National Board Certified teacher since November of 2004, serves as math coach at Kyrene de las Lomas and Kyrene del Milenio in Phoenix. She has been with the district since August of 1999. Arizona Teacher of the Year is the only statewide program that spotlights the contributions of Arizona’s teachers. » read more
Kyrene Employee Recognized for Dedication and Service
Roxanne Richardson, Supervisor of the Kyrene Family Resource Center has been named the “Liaison of the Year” by the Arizona Coalition to End Homelessness. Roxanne is a 16 year employee with Kyrene School District and is responsible for working with families providing resources and opportunities for Kyrene families in need. » read more
Kyrene School Board Members Honored at State Conference
Two members of the Kyrene School Board were honored at the Annual Arizona School Boards Association conference this year.
Rae Waters was named to the All-Arizona School Board Association bestows on individual governing board members. Ms. Waters also received a Master of Boardsmanship Cluster Award.
Rich Zawtocki was named to the ASBA Honor Roll. This award recognizes retiring governing board members who have served at least two consecutive terms and were nominated by their boards for outstanding service.
