Family Resource Center (KFRC)

Imagine being able to attend school only one day per week. That is the story of a Kyrene family with five children who only had one pair of shoes to share. Each child was assigned the shoes one day per week, and that is when the student attended class. A District employee noticed this misfortune and began gathering donations of gently used clothes and shoes to provide to this and other families in need in the Kyrene Elementary School District. Within two days the children each had their own shoes, clothing and backpacks so they could attend school everyday. The Kyrene Family Resource Center (KFRC) was born out of this charitable effort. The center is one of many educational resources and opportunities that the Kyrene Schools Community Foundation provides.

The KFRC provides an opportunity for students and families to have access to needed assistance and resources, in order to meet their basic and extended needs. By raising awareness and providing connections to educational opportunities in the community, the KFRC encourages and supports families, and emphasizes the importance of parental involvement in their children's education. In addition, the KFRC reinforces the need for student attendance in school and in after school and summer programs.
