Welcome to Kyrene Connect -
Employee Home Computer Instructions
* You may want to print these instructions for reference.

  • This system will allow you to connect to Kyrene's network via SSL-VPN and download your personal files or access a variety of internal only websites from your personal home computer.
  • If you are using a Kyrene laptop from home click here for different instructions.
The biggest thing to remember about this system is that your are NOT working live on the KSD network. You must download your files, work/edit them on your home computer and then upload them back to the network for use at work/school.
  1. Log into the VPN portal with the supplied credentials at:
    http://www.kyrene.org/kc

  2. Install the application:
Depending on your computer you may see the following screen/s. If you do Click RUN.
** If you don't, and you get the screen shown in step 3, you may skip this step.

If you see the Yellow Bar below. Click on it to install the Active X Control required to use our VPN service.

Once you click on the yellow bar above you will get the prompt below. Select "Install ActiveX Control"

Finally, Click the install button and the application will install and log you into the VPN service.

  3. Once logged in you will see the following screen.

  4. From here you can access various web applications normally only available from within the KSD network or download files from your personal H, T or X drive files.

  5. To access an internal website simply click on the link of application you want to use under Web Bookmarks. The web application will open in a new window for you to use. When you are done with that web application simply close the window by clicking the Red X at the top right corner of the window. You will then be taken back to the Kyrene Connect portal.

  6. To access one of your personal files simply click on the Drive letter you want to access. Continue to navigate to the file you want to download to your home computer.
(for this example we will use the :My Gradebook - 2005.egp).
Once you find the file you want to download simply click on the file name and you will see the screen below.

  7. Click SAVE ( do not click Open if your computer gives you that option - you must click SAVE )
Now save this file to a location of your choice on your home computer (for example - your desktop).
When the download completes you will see the screen below. Simply click close.

  8. The file is now on your personal computer.
Now logoff Kyrene Connect by clicking on the Sign Out Button in the top right corner of the browser window.
You can now close the browser window by clicking the Red X at the top right corner of the window..

  9. Now you can edit the file/s you downloaded by using your home computer.

Keep in mind you MUST have the application that created the file loaded on your home computer to edit it.
For example, if you want to edit a Word.doc you must have Microsoft Word loaded at home.
If you want to edit an EasyGradePro.egp gradebook your must have Easy Grade Pro loaded on your home computer.

Kyrene does have licensing that will allow you to install some applications owned by the district on your home computer.
Please see your site technology representative for information on obtaining the installation software.
KYRENE IS NOT RESPONSIBLE / WILL NOT SUPPORT THE INSTALLATION OR CONFIGURATION OF PROGRAMS ON YOUR HOME SYSTEM. INSTALL PROGRAMS AT YOUR OWN RISK.

  10. Once you are done editing the file you downloaded you need to upload that file back to the Kyrene Network so that you will be able to access it from work/school the next day.

  11. To upload your file back to the network start by logging back into the Kyrene Connect portal. (step 1 above)

  12. Once logged in navigate back to the same drive letter and sub directory you downloaded the original file from.
Once there click the Up "Upload Files" button - You will see the screen below

  13. Click the "Browse" button and navigate to the file on YOUR PERSONAL COMPUTER that you need to upload, select it and click OPEN.

  14. This will enter the file info into the screen as shown below.

  15. If you just click "Upload" at the bottom of the screen now it will upload the file with today's date appended to the end of the file:
    Example:
test.doc    (after uploading would become) -----> test-10-10-06-11-15.doc (today's date and time at the end)
Your original document on the network will be left untouched.

If you want to keep the name the same and overwrite the original file you MUST fill out the "Save As" filed with the same name as the original before clicking "Upload" at the bottom of the screen.
    Example
test.doc (in the Save As field you will enter) -----> test.doc (the same name) and the click Upload the bottom of the screen.
This will overwrite the original document with the changes you made.

You can also use the Save As feature to simply save a second version of the document with a different name
(if you want to keep the original intact).
    Example
test.doc (in the Save As field you will enter) -----> testABC.doc (a different name) and it will upload a second copy of the document.

When you have the file/s in the upload screen named the way you want them simply click "Upload" at the bottom of the screen and it will up load the files selected.

  16. When the upload has completed you will see the screen below telling you the upload in "Done"

Make sure it says "Done" in the green bar and then click the Close button.
Your files are now back on the KSD Network and will available from your office/classroom.

  17. When you are done working in Kyrene Connect simply click the Sign Out Button in the top right corner of the screen and close your browser.
