Superintendent's Message:
Dear Staff,
I’m writing this
in exciting anticipation of the National School Board Association site
visit that will take place this week. We are most honored to have been
selected as a “Salute District” last year and accepted the award at the
T+L (Technology and Learning) Conference that was held in Dallas, Texas
a year ago. The site visit extends the opportunity to interested
professionals from all over the nation to visit Kyrene to see what we do
with technology to support learning in our schools. Over 100 people
have registered for this conference! The Technology Department and
schools have spent a great deal of time and energy preparing for this
visit and I wish to acknowledge and thank them for their efforts.
This honor is
just one more example of what makes Kyrene such a great place for
children to learn. I continue to be amazed at all we are doing here and
I know that it is because of the commitment and dedication that all of
you demonstrate each and every day to provide the very best education
possible to all of our students. As we move into the spring and learn
about how the state will deal with the economic downturn and the budget
deficit, it will be more important than ever that we continue to rely on
the strong collaborative processes and relationships that allow us to
make sound and sustainable decisions for the future. I have every
confidence that we can work through any and all challenges as a unified
staff and administration. Let’s also remember to celebrate and have fun
together because we have lots to be proud and grateful for!

KMS Spring Musical
Kyrene Middle
School is gearing up to host their annual spring musical, “Once Upon a
Mattress”. There are 35 KMS talented students who make up the cast for
this play. Based on the fairy tale “The Princess and the Pea”, “Once
Upon a Mattress” centers around Prince Dauntless the Drab whose
over-bearing mother, Queen Agravain, has declared that he will wed only
a true princess of royal blood. When Princess Winnifred arrives and
declares herself a contender for the Prince’s hand, the Queen devises a
clever test to determine whether this princess is worth of her son.

Kyrene offers a unique employment benefit program known as On-Site. Most
schools employ an On-site to live on the school campus in either an
apartment or a trailer (Monte Vista has a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom
apartment.) Part of the employment agreement is that the On-site
performs a daily check ensuring the school is secure and that the alarms
are set. For performing these checks, the On-site is paid $12/hour (or
$18/hour when overtime applies!) for up to four hours per week. Kyrene
employees who are interested in the position can apply
online or obtain an application at the Furlong Center.
