Superintendent's Message:
Dear Staff,
The Valley of the Sun
United Way has kicked off its 2008 fundraising campaign. The Valley of
the Sun United Way will depend on individual and corporate donors to
achieve our community goal of $52.5
million this year. As we think about the needs that exist within our
community it would be important to be aware that:
-
48% of Arizona 4th graders read below grade level.
-
More the 68,000 individuals were unemployed in Maricopa County last
year.
-
Nearly 8,000 individuals in Maricopa County were identified as being
homeless and families accounted for approximately one-third of this
total.
Figures like these
continue to remind us that thousands of adults, children and seniors are
in need of critical support each day – right in our own community. With
your support, we can address these issues and make this community
stronger for everyone.
When you contribute to
United Way, it is possible to designate where you would like your
donation to go. One option is to choose the Kyrene Schools Community
Foundation. This year the foundation used the majority of their funds to
support the prevention programs in the Kyrene School District.
Please give what you
can and help us achieve results that matter!
If you have any
questions, please contact Mary Ott at extension 4162.
