NEWSFLASH
Chandler
Regional Hospital Sick Child Care
Kyrene employees whose children are sick have access to
free childcare through Chandler Regional Hospital Sick
Child Care. Due
to site renovations, the Sick Child Care program will be
closed from October 3-14. The center will re-open, new
and improved, on October 17th.
This
program is paid for by Kyrene, and helps us reduce the
use of absences (and the use of subs) when an
employee’s child is sick. If you or your staff would
like more information regarding the program, please feel
free to contact Deb
Spurgin at x4017.
Change
in Bus Pass Policy
This is a challenging year for the
Transportation Department with the current
driver shortage and challenges to retain good bus
drivers. The Transportation Department is continuing
to recruit, interview, and hire good qualified people,
but the process is lengthy and time consuming. For
this reason, Transportation is implementing a
policy change, effective immediately: Bus Passes will be
limited to students that are new to Kyrene this
year. In the past, many returning students have
been issued Bus Passes to ride home with their friends. For
questions, contact Marianne Borghese at x4231 or by
e-mail at mborgh@kyrene.org.

Kyrene Administrative Assessment Plan will be held at
the District Office in the South Board Room on Tuesday,

preview the assessment tool and obtain information on
how the system has been developed. A formal
presentation by the KAAP team will be made at the Board
meeting scheduled for Tuesday, September 27th.
K-8
Programming Study Update
At
the Tuesday, September 13 Governing Board meeting, the
Governing Board unanimously approved 2005-2006 K-8
Programming Study Work Plan. The
Board also wanted to be sure that the K-8 Programming
Study Committee has an opportunity to review the work
plan once again to see if any other changes should be
made (from the Committee’s point of view). It was
agreed that any further changes to the plan can be made
if this becomes necessary.

Drives to Benefit the Family Resource Center
Many
schools are beginning to schedule various donation
drives to take place throughout the fall. Some schools
have inquired about having their drives benefit the
Kyrene Family Resource Center. Any school interested in
doing this is encouraged and welcome to do so. This
is a great way to teach children about helping their
neighbors through community service. Donations are
regularly needed in the areas of food, clothing,
toiletries, diapers, and toys. All these donations
stay within our Kyrene community. Once again this year
we will be having the Winter Wonderland event, so if
your school would like to partner with the Family
Resource Center, please contact Roxanne
Richardson or Karin
Crider.
Safe
Schools Expo
The
Kyrene School District Safe Schools/Healthy Students
team is hosting the first Safe Schools Expo and Family
Fun Day at Kiwanis Wave Pool in Tempe. The event will
take place this coming Saturday, September 24, from 10
a.m. to 2 p.m. Everyone in the Kyrene community is
invited to attend this event. The Expo will provide
beneficial information on community resources; health
information, such as physical, mental and behavioral
wellness; and safety information vital for student
success in school and in their community. Attached
is a list of the exhibitors already scheduled for the
Expo. Attendance to the Expo is free to
the public, and wave pool access is available for a
discounted rate of $2. For more information or to
secure discounted wave pool tickets, contact Donna
Chojnacki at x4083.
