Owen School District Internet Reading Activities This site has resource links for each theme in the Harcourt Trophies series for each grade level. Some of the links might be helpful to use to build background knowledge before you begin each theme or story.

Using Word Maker, students generate words by adding a beginning letter or blend to a word ending. This engaging tool helps students with letter-sound correspondence.

 Children's Book Breaks
Find lots of great ideas to go along with some favorite children's books.  You will find supporting resources and activities that your students can do to reinforce what was learned in reading some of their favorite stories. There is also a great nursery rhymes section with lots of great craft ideas and activities.

Super3 is a primary version of The Big6  information literacy model. Developed by Mike Eisenberg and Bob Berkowitz, the Big6 is a widely-known and widely-used approach to teaching information and technology skills. Word Families in Nursery Rhymes

Have you students visit Clifford's Road to Reading to practice reading some simple stories and play some interactive reading reinforcement games. Students can print out their own reading road map. When they complete each part, they get a souvenir to print, color and paste to their Road Map. When they have  collected all eight souvenirs, they earn their License to Read!

This is an incredible poetry resource that can be used to help introduce your students to poetry.  At this site students can read all forms of poetry and can also hear the poem being read to them.  Many of the poems are recorded by the actual poet who wrote the poem.


This interactive game allows students to manipulate letters to make words from a shared story.   Here are some directions from the Read Write Think website for how to use this site with your students. "Read aloud one of the books listed on the opening page of the interactive Word Wizard game. After reading the book together as a class, have students access the interactive game and begin making words related to the book that they just read. You can conduct the lesson as a group and walk students through the exercises or allow them to work in pairs or individually at the computer."
