Dr. Vesely brings to Kyrene more than 35 years of experience in a variety of educational settings—as a teacher, principal, principal supervisor, executive director, education business leader, chief education officer, Assistant and Deputy Superintendent.
Most recently, Dr. Vesely served as the Deputy Superintendent for the Sunnyside Unified School District in Tucson. Her responsibilities included the coordination, development, alignment and improvement of the curriculum and instructional programs. She was also responsible for the supervision of principals and achievement of schools. Under her direction, schools utilized a problem solving approach and strategy development process to diagnose and respond to performance and organizational issues. She was instrumental in helping schools meet compliance expectations and reach achievement performance measures. During her tenure in Sunnyside, she lead the development of the district’s five-year strategic plan.
Dr. Vesely also worked at Edison Schools and Pearson School Achievement Services as a Senior Vice President. She led the Achievement Services team responsible for school turnaround, improving student achievement through effective instruction with aligned utilization of data, and for the planning and implementation of high-quality achievement partnerships for states, school districts, and schools.
As a principal in Tucson Unified School District, Dr. Vesely was recognized as a school turanround principal and honored by the Center for the Future of Arizona as a “Beat the Odds” high performing school. She was also instrumental in developing arts-integrated programming designed to increase learning and academic achievement. Opening Minds Through the Arts was recognized and featured on the U.S. Department of Education website as model program for impacting student achievement and also featured in the book, Third Space: When Learning Matters as one of 10 research-based case study schools with high achievement from low income, diverse student populations.
During her tenure as a principal, she also supported the facilitation the Tucson Unified School District’s Leadership Academy to prepare talented educators for school leadership roles including principal, assistant principal, and instructional coaches.
