7th grader students in Dr. Colella and Mr. McMaster’s enrichment classes at Centennial Middle School participated in an academic competition Monday. Students created a real life action plan for flying up to space for two years to mine Helium 3. This gassy substance is extremely powerful and lucrative. One ton can power the United States for one year. The students had to figure out every phase of the trip: Culture, leisure, aesthetics, food, water, waste, storage, jobs, qualifications for jobs, communication, travel, mining, and building all sections of their main base. Overall, Centennial was a beacon of professionalism with their behavior and dress, with lots of compliments from the Honeywell aerospace engineers. And for the second year in a row, Centennial will be sending a team to the finals to compete against private schools, which has been a huge compliment to the students here putting in the work.
