Julie Ormiston, Program Coordinator 

Julie Ormiston is the Program Coordinator for the CASA Vida Program.  Julie attended Arizona State University where she received her BA in Education.  She taught second, third, and fourth grades for 8 years before joining the Kyrene School District.  She resides in Surprise with her husband and son.  She is proud to be a part of such a wonderful enrichment program!

 

Elsa Sheehan, Kindergarten
and 1st Grade Teacher

Elsa Sheehan is very proud to be part of the CASA Vida program where she has taught first/second grade for two years.  She is a native of Tucson where she received her BA in Elementary Education and Med in Language, Reading and Culture from the University of Arizona.  She taught kindergarten, first, second, and third grades in the Tucson Unified School District for 31 years before moving the Kyrene School District.  Some of her past experiences include facilitating school-wide workshops on Sheltered English Immersion, presenting at the nation Council of Teachers of mathematics in Washington D.C. and being selected by her principal to be the Key Teacher of her school for others to observe Guided Reading strategies.  In addition, she has served as a cooperating teacher to several students from different universities. She and her husband have four children.  They reside in Gilbert, and in their spare time enjoy SCUBA diving, skiing, hiking and bicycling.

 

Carol Ann Warner,
4th - 6th Grade Teacher

Meet Carol Ann Warner, she is a native New Yorker, who received her higher education at Queens College of the City of New York graduating with a BA and an MA in elementary education. Carol taught for fifteen years in New York and New Jersey before moving to Arizona 20 years ago. For the past 21 years, she has been employed by the Kyrene School District. Carol taught sixth grade at Kyrene de los Niños, moved with the pilot Middle School program to Kyrene Middle School, and spent 12 years at Akimel A-al Middle School.

Carol has always been an educational leader in Kyrene. She has served on many committees, taught district courses, mentored many student teachers, and evaluated Career Ladder portfolios. Carol has achieved highly qualified status in Elementary Education, Communication Arts, and Social Studies. In 2004, Carol was honored by her students when she received the Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year award. Though retiring in 2004 to help with her grandchildren, Carol has continued to sub in the Kyrene District. She served as Prevention Supervisor for the Altadeña District in spring 2006.

 She is currently teaching a Distance Learning class for prospective teachers for NAU. Carol is the mother of four, grandmother of seven. Her new position at CASA Vida allows her to experience the best of two worlds. She can be a doting grandmother while continuing her love of teaching and interacting with students.

 

 

Lisa Sellers, Music teacher

Meet Mrs. Lisa Sellers who is the oldest child of two musicians. Her father is a PHD of Organ. Her mother has 10 years of vocal training though never got a music degree. She played Suzuki method Violin from 3 years to 5years old. Music was always a part of her life. Her sister, mother and she were a singing trio that would perform at their church, various other churches and on one occasion on TV with an audience of thousands. This was from middle school through junior college.

In high school, she was in the band, chorus, special singing ensemble, and drama. Her mother and she were in the opera together while participiating in the local opera company. Ironically, she was planning on going to college to major in medicine and become a mirco-surgeon specializing in eye and ear. In Junior college, chemistry and she had a disagreement so she decided to change her major to music. Her plan was to become a singer for a living, however, debilitating stage fright made her change her mind to education.

She has a degree in Voice Performance from University of South Florida (1990) and a degree in Music Education from Old Dominion University in Virginia (1994). She is certified in tow of the three levels of Orff Schulwerk music training . She was a teacher of the year at her elementary school in New Port News, Virginia in 1997. She has been teaching music for 12 years. She is a member of the local Arizona Orff Schulwerk Association where she attends workshops. Mrs. Sellers currently keeps busy with 3 little children ages 8,6 and 2. She also is the keyboard player for her church band. Ellen McClure, PE teacher

Meet Mrs. Ellen McClure whom is a fourth year traveling PE teacher here in Kyrene. She has three adult children, one of whom is married and living in New Zealand. Ellen is currently living in Chandler Arizona and is married to Lance McClure, a former 6th grade teacher who now teaches at Crossroads Christian School. Ellen has a love for children, loves sports and games and also home schooled her own children.
