Kyrene Athletic Program

Kyrene Athletics for Middle School

Each year, over 3,000 middle school students from the Tempe, Chandler, and Phoenix area participate in the Kyrene Athletic Program. This Program provides a positive, high quality after-school sports program that emphasizes participation, teamwork, skill development, and sportsmanship.

Kyrene offers athletic opportunities for boys and girls in soccer, basketball, volleyball, track and field, wrestling, cross-country, cheer, softball, and baseball. There are also various participation opportunities for 5th to 8th grade students through athletic clinics and sport intramural sessions.

For more information contact your school's student services secretary or call the Athletics department at (480) 783-4060.

Goals and Objectives

The goals and objectives of the Kyrene Athletic Program (KAP) is to develop and maintain the following on the part of every participant:

» Physical skills necessary in the sport or activity

» An awareness of progressive skill requirements needed to continue in the growth of a specific sport or activity

» Respect for the efforts, abilities, and rights of all others

» The awareness of leadership responsibilities in school, community, and life contacts, as well as on the field

» Active participation by all members of the team

A Coordinating Committee consisting of an Athletic Director from each participating school governs the Program. The members will adhere to the guidelines set forth by the Kyrene Athletic Program Guidelines and bylaws and/or the rules of the Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA).

Tax Credits for Athletics Participation

State law allows Arizonans to contribute up to $400 to public schools for extra curricular activities and then deduct that amount directly from their state income taxes through a tax credit.  Tax credit donations fund a variety of programs including: character education, extracurricular activities, fine arts, and athletics.

Each time your child participates in an eligible program your fee pays you back in the form of a tax credit that you may submit with your Arizona state tax return.

All athletic programs are tax credit eligible!
