The purpose of the district assessment system is to assess a child’s performance on the Kyrene adopted curriculum and to assess district and school progress in implementing the scope and sequence of the curriculum at the child, class, grade and district level.

· All of our assessments, with the exception of the MSS–DP (Diagnostic Prescriptive) assessment, are "secured" tests. All persons having access to secured test materials are required to sign
   the Test Security Agreement/Affidavit.
·All of our district and state tests are primarily power (untimed) tests except the Stanford Achievement Test (Stanford 9).
· Communication Arts Supports System (CASS)

>For 2001-2002 includes the Kyrene adopted reading/writing curriculum, resources, district reading (genre specific testlets) and
writing assessments on specific genres and the end of grade (EOG) language arts (reading comprehension and language usage)
     assessments.
· Mathematics Support Systems (MSS)
    >For 2001-2002 includes the Kyrene adopted Mathematics curriculum, resources, district math Diagnostic Prescriptive (DP)
and the end of grade (EOG) mathematics assessment.
· Arizona Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS) for grades 3, 5, & 8 and the Stanford-9 for grades 1-8 are state required measures.
· The district science assessments administered in grades 5 and 8 are not grade specific measures. For grade 5, the assessment would
   include curriculum targets from 3, 4 & 5 and for grade 8, curriculum targets from 6, 7 & 8.

How was the calendar developed?

The calendar represents numerous iterations and changes beginning with draft forms during Spring 2001. Input from Kyrene staff members, elementary and middle school principals resulted in the Kyrene School District calendar and the required test dates.

How do we receive the Assessment Corner?

The purpose of the Assessment Corner is to provide in a question and answer format, information about student assessment in the Kyrene District. This is the eighth year for the Assessment Corner and fourth year that we will have the Assessment Corner as part of the Career Ladder Communiqué. The Communiqué is our primary "print source" of information and questions about Kyrene assessments. We also can be accessed through the Kyrene Home Page. From the Kyrene Home Page, click on the link to Departments and scroll down to Psychological Services/Student Assessment. Click on Assessment Web Site and then click on Current Newsletter. We have also created links to sources of information about student testing and measurement that can be accessed from our website.

New issues of the Assessment Corner will appear at least once per month online and possibly more frequently depending on the Kyrene Community needs.

If you have any assessment questions or concerns for the Assessment Corner, please contact Student Assessment at (480) 783-4127 or by e-mail to Daniel Juliano or Sharon Moore.
