Opened in 1992, Akimel A-al celebrated its 20th anniversary this past school year. The school's name is from the language of the Akimel O'odham (Pima) People and means "Children of the River." It is pronounced "Ah' key mahl."  The name was chosen to honor the Akimel O'odham people.

    While our office is closed for the summer, you may register your child for school at the Kyrene District Office, 8700 S. Kyrene Road, Tempe, AZ (NW corner of Kyrene and Warner Roads).  Hours are Monday-Thursday, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm.  Call 480-541-1000 for information or school registration questions.  Note:  The District Office will be closed on Thursday, July 3rd and Monday, July 14th and open on Friday, July 25th.

  • 2014/2015 School Hours
    Our school hours for the upcoming school year will be 8:30 am - 3:30 pm with early release every Wednesday at 2:00 pm.  The first bell will ring at 8:26 am.  At 8:30 am, all students will be expected to be in the classroom and ready to begin a day of learning.
