Each student attends language arts, math, science, social studies and an elective class everyday, along with a thirty minute lunch. Examples of sixth grade subjects of study:
Kyrene is an “A” district. The Arizona Department of Education provides each school with a rating based on the state’s school accountability system, Arizona Learns. Kyrene has consistently been one of the top-performing districts.
Middle school philosophy
Kyrene’s team approach allows teachers to know your child better. At each grade level, students receive their core instruction from a team of teachers who share the same group of students.
Class placement is determined by a compilation of state and in-district test scores. In language arts and math, grade level and advanced classes are available. We offer high school level courses for students who qualify, including transportation to local high schools.
Research has shown students who are involved in middle
school perform better academically and socially. All middle schools offer a variety of electives including: Spanish, art, computer, P.E., family and consumer science, theater, band, chorus and orchestra. An elective preference sheet is provided in the spring of 5th grade.
