About Tonja Yalung
Hello, my name is Tonja Yalung and I am the proud principal of Kyrene de los Ninos. I began my teaching career back in 1987 at Kyrene de las Lomas. Over the years, I have held various positions such as 3rd and 4th grade teacher, K-5 math coach, Assistant Principal, and most recently Principal of Kyrene de los Lagos.
I grew up in a small farm town in Illinois where I enjoyed catching lightning bugs, and playing school in the basement of my home. At the age of 16, my parents moved to Tucson, AZ for my father’s job. It was there I graduated from high school, and attended the University of Arizona. I met my husband of 25 years at the U of A, and we moved to Phoenix after graduating. We are blessed with two boys who both attend the University of Arizona. Go Wildcats! This will be the first year that both of our boys will be away at college, so I am looking forward to other hobbies besides cooking, and laundry.
As the principal of your school, I am committed to providing a quality education for your child, in a safe and welcoming environment. It is my belief and desire that all students will achieve greatness through a quality education. I look forward to working with you and your child to accomplish these goals. As partners in your child’s educational journey, together we can make great things happen.
