The first step to calculating your Secondary Property Tax is to determine the amount that is taxable. A home has a 10% Assessment Ratio which means you have to pay taxes for 10% of it's value. Different classes of property have different assessment ratios such as vacant land that is assessed at 16%. The Secondary Value is the full value of the property as determined by the Maricopa County Assessor's office. If you multiply the Full Cash Value by the Assessment Ratio then you will determine the Secondary Assessed Value as displayed below.

Kyrene's Secondary Tax is used to fund Local Initiatives such as Bonds and Overrides. This additional Local Support is what allows the District to be exceptional instead of just average. The calculation is simply your Secondary Assessed Value multiplied against the Rate and divided by 100 as displayed below. The calculation of the Rate and reason for dividing by 100 are explained at the Secondary Tax Rate Calculation webpage.
|2011 Secondary (Full Cash) Tax Amounts|
|Tax District||Rate/100||2011 Tax||2010 Tax|
|Elementary School Overrides||0.9240||$184.80||$168.44 |
|Elementary School A Bonds||0.4604||$92.08 ||$168.11|
|Elementary School B Bonds||0.2754||$55.08 ||$39.44 |
The total of the three items above represent Kyrene's Total Secondary Tax Rate which is 1.6598 for 2011. Click here to view the Secondary Tax Rate Calculation
