District Assessment System

The purpose of the District Assessment System is to assess a child’s performance status on the Kyrene adopted curriculum and to assess district and school progress in implementing the scope and sequence of the curriculum at the child, class, grade and district level.

All district and state tests are primarily power (untimed) tests.

Communication Arts Supports System (CASS)
The CASS assessment tools include the Kyrene adopted reading/writing curriculum, resources, district reading (testlets) and writing assessments on specific genres and the end of grade (EOG) language arts (reading comprehension and language usage) assessments.  An optional CASS-Reading Genre assessment is offered to grades 2 – 8.  The CASS-EOG is a required district assessment administered to grades 2 – 8.

Mathematics Support Systems (MSS)
The MSS assessment tools include the Kyrene adopted Mathematics curriculum, resources, and the end of grade (EOG) mathematics assessment.  The MSS-EOG is a required district assessment administered to grades 1 – 8.

The Arizona Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS)-Dual Purpose Assessment (DPA) for grades 3 – 8 and the TerraNova for grade 2 are state required measures.

The Arizona Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS) for Science  administered in grades 4 and 8 are are state required measures.  The AIMS Science test assesses a child’s knowledge of the Arizona State Content Standards.
